It's Mine

If you read the last post yo know that I was bidding on a one of a kind copy of Megan McCafferty's novel Sloppy Firsts. I kept a close eye on the bidding all last week. When it came to the end of the auction I was the winner.

I wasn't too worried. There was only one bidder who tried to outbid me once I made my first bid. I made a higher bid, and won the book.

Now I'm waiting to get the book in the mail, and I'm more than a little excited. I can't wait to get it,and read all of the extra info about the books, written by none other than the author herself.

I'm not going to tell how much I actually spent on this book. You would all think I was crazy. Well here's to being crazy.

So Much Marcus Flutie I Can't Stand It

This Friday around 200 young adult authors our holding an auction on ebay. All the proceeds are going to help those devastated by the effects of Hurricane Sandy. But that's not what is important. At least not for this blog post anyway.

The important thing is that Megan McCafferty, the author of the Jessica Darling series (the best books to ever have been written), is auctioning off a copy of Sloppy Firsts, the first book in the series. Why is this so important you ask? Especially since I obviously already have a copy of this book. The author has made notes, and marked, this copy of the book up herself. There are valuable notes and backstory that I just have to have.

There is more to know about the fictional boy that I am in love with. There has never been a fictional character that I have been completely in love with before, at least until Marcus Flutie. I have been in love with Marcus for over a decade now, and I need to have this book. I have to know everything there is to know about Marcus. I think I may just die if I don't know it all. Ok that may be a bit dramatic, but you get the point.

I'll let you know if I win the book. But there is nothing I won't do to win this book.

Thanksgiving

The Thanksgiving holiday is once again rapidly approaching. Thanksgiving is usually spent with my family: my parents, brother, and grandmother. But this year everything is different, and I don't know how I feel about it.

My Mom and step-dad moved back down to Arizona this Spring, and my brother and I our still here. So, this year I won't be having Thanksgiving with my family. The thing is that my Mom is still celebrating at her house. Of course this year it's going to be a huge gathering that we haven't had this big since we left Arizona in the first place. Everyone is going to be there, and I'm not really exaggerating either. Between 12-18 people are going to be cramming themselves into my Mom's house to spend the Thanksgiving holiday.

Well everyone but me that is. It's not that I don't have any where to go on Thanksgiving, because I do. This year I will be spending Thanksgiving with my friends. But I'm still not sure how it really makes me feel when I think about the fact that basically my entire family will be spending Thanksgiving together and I will be stuck here in Utah. Excluded from the rest of the family. It's kind of depressing if you think about it.

What a way to start the holiday's. I'm sure when it gets to be Thanksgiving I'll have an amazing time with my friends. But I guess right here, and right now, thinking about it it makes me slightly sad.

Love & Hate

I love writing. And for anyone who knows me they know that this is not just true, but something that I want to spend my life doing. Writing isn't just something that I do, but is a real part of who I am. As I said earlier, if you know me than you know that I'm not exaggerating in the slightest.

So, if I love writing so much than how is it that I hate writing essays with a true passion. What is it about essays that are the epitome of evil? They are boring, tedious, and I always feel like my time could better be spent doing something else. Essay writing is still writing, isn't it? So why than do I feel like the end of the world is coming when I'm writing one? (Ok this time I am exaggerating, but you know what I mean).

What is it? Why is it? I honestly don't know, and probably will never figure it out. I have already written one essay for this week, and I still have two more to go. That is my life.

A Book Better as a Graphic Novel

I know what you're thinking, because I'm think the same thing. Is that even possible? Can a graphic novel be better then a book? A week ago I would have said an absolute no. It's not possible and can never be possible. But know I stand corrected.

The first Twilight book, of the same name, by Stephanie Meyer was turned into a graphic novel. Since I couldn't stand the novels themselves. I have read them so I can say that they are not as good as the world says they are, and the writing is slow, simple, and has a lot of terrible grammatical problems. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and the above is mine.

Anyway, I never planned on reading the Twilight graphic novel. I was at the library looking for something else, when I saw both of the volumes of the story. I decided to check them out. I started reading and it was much faster to get into the story. The plot wasn't bogged down by excessive prose, and consisted of 95% dialogue. The dialogue moved the story along quickly, and before I knew it I was done with the first volume of Twilight story.

What originally took me six months to read only took me two days in graphic novel form. It held my interested, and oddly I wanted to keep reading. I always felt that the story itself could have been really good. It just got messed up in the translating to the novels. What the graphic novel does is take the story's most basic elements and put it in a form that even an ardent hater of The Twilight Saga can enjoy.

Although, the fact that the vampires sparkle in this, and ONLY this, vampire story is just as creepy on the picture page as it is on the television screen. There is no way anyone could ever make that any less creepy than it is.

Back to Russian

I think I want to go back to having Russian as the language I want to learn for my foreign language. No matter how hard I try I just can't seem to keep my interest in ASL. It's not that I don't want to learn ASL, because honestly I think that I do. It seems really interesting, and I'm interested in being able to speak it (in a sense).

I just think that when it comes right down to it Russian is my first real passion, when it comes to language. I think I'm going to start taking it again next semester.

It's going to take another year to graduate anyway, so I might as well take something that I want to. Right?

Title Sequence

I always fast forward threw the title sequences of tv shows. I mean every week it's exactly the same. You see the same images and here the non-descript music. Why would someone want to watch it again, and again, and again, every single week? Well, I would say that on average they don't.

Except for three very specific reasons. The first is the start of a brand new season. A new season means that the images in the title sequence are going to change. It's also a way to find out who will be returning as a main cast members. Also who will be joining the cast as a main cast member.

The second and third reason are related. They are specifically to listen to the theme songs. The first of the two is Justified. It's fairly short to began with. But that song seriously kicks some ass. If you have never seen the show, and don't know the theme song, then you need to go check out both right now. Right this very second. Go google "Justified theme song", and you should understand.

The second show is Psych. This song was specifically written for the show, and it is absolutely perfect. Honestly, I just enjoy listening to it, along with the antics that are being showed in the credits as well.

Creepiness in Real Life

So, this happened a month or two ago at the beginning of the semester, but I still want to tell you.

So, one of my English classes was in a building that was completely out of the way and had no air conditioning. Our first day of class was there in that building. That night and the following day I was re-watching Supernatural. In the episode "Asylum" the ghost are trying to tell the boys to go to room137.

On its own this really means nothing, but Wednesday evening I go an email for my teacher. Our class had moved to one of the English buildings, which made it much more convenient. Can you guess where that room is?

Just after I had gotten done watching that particular episode of Supernatural our room was moved to room # 137. Do you believe in coincidences, because I was slightly freaked out.

Boredom

How does one fight boredom? I am completely serious. Sometimes I get so bored nothing sounds fun, exciting, or even worth doing. And these are thing I love doing. Like reading, sometimes I just can't get into it no matter how hard I try. Writing doesn't keep my interest. Or watching my favorite shows, even that can become tedious.

What then do I do when nothing will keep me entertained? How do I keep the boredom at bay? How do I make my life interesting again?

Feel free to make suggestions.

Losing Me

This isn't going to be a deep philosophical look into myself. I promise. Honestly, that would get tedious to me also.

Its more like I know why diets don't work. That's because you can't do a diet indefinitely. And the second you go off it you're going to gain it all back, maybe even more.

So, if I want to lose, and keep it there, it has to be a lifestyle choice. I need to choose the healthier meals for lunch and dinner. And certainly watch how much I'm actually eating.

Then there's the fact that I need to get my lazy ass moving. By that I mean exercise. So, far I've gone twice this week, and I'm planning on one more time at least.

Now I need to stick with it and not give up. I know I can reach my goal, if I really try.

My New Toy

I just got for myself the coolest new toy ever. My iPad. It really is so much fun. You always hear people talking about how much they love their iPads, and now I know why. It does everything I could possibly need it to do.

It works as a laptop. I can write papers on it if need be. I can take notes on it for class. I can get on Facebook or check my email. It's all simple and easy.

It works as an e-reader. It can be a Kindle, a nook, or any other type of e-reader. All I need is the accompanying app.

I can also use it as a day planner. I can keep track of what homework I have do and when. I can also keep track of whether or not I'm making pages on my book.

One of the coolest things I can do is with an app I found called GoodNotes. I can upload the things that I need to read for school that are online into this app and then I can highlight right onto the page and even take handwritten notes on the page.

This really is the best new toy I've ever gotten. It's a little of everything all rolled into one. I even wrote this blog post with it.
